Duke Nukem

Hello, welcome to my first reader requested post. This post was requested by eod. Now, on with the post.

Game History

Duke Nukem was originally a 2d side-scroller released by Apogee Software in 1991. It was then followed 2 years later in 1993 by Duke Nukem 2, which is also a side-scroller. Then, in 1996, Apogee Software made the jump to 3D graphics for Duke Nukem 3D, the most popular of the 3 games. The game was developed by Todd Repogle and John Carmack.

Gameplay

Each Game is made up of three episodes consisting of 10 levels each. The goal of each level is to make it around any obstacles and kill any techbots you come across. The level only ends when you find and defeat Dr. Proton. This gameplay style only applies to Duke Nukem and Duke Nukem 2. In Duke Nukem 3D you have to work your way through a building made up of many corridors, defeat the monsters filling the halls, and defeat Dr. Proton. Unlike the originals, Duke Nukem 3D has many weapons.

Plot

Duke Nukem is set in the year 1997, a time where the world is being taken over by the dastardly Dr. Proton's Techbots. You play as Duke Nukem trying to save the world from the techbots, and defeat Dr. Proton. The first episode takes place in a future (now past) LA devastated by techbots. In the second episode, Duke chases Dr. Proton to his secret moonbase. In the third and final chapter, Dr. Proton escapes into the future, and Duke chases him through time.

Comments

  1. Very interesting game, and it gives the knowledge knowing that the OG doom games won't happen in the future. Along with all the chapters, this game seems like it sold very well back then.
